Dear [Insert News Organization's Name]: I am writing to call your attention to the case of Justin Wolfe, a man who is on Virginia's death row for a murder he did not commit. Though his story was partially told on CBS's "48 Hours Mystery" in 2004, the public has yet to hear the full extent of the injustice of his conviction.
In short, the confessed murderer, Own Barber, avoided the death penalty by accepting a plea bargain from prosecutors in which he agreed to testify that Justin hired him to murder Danny Petrole. Incredibly, Barber received a sentence of 38 years in prison, while Justin received the death penalty. Justin was convicted primarily on the testimony of Barber, a man clearly capable of lying and highly motivated to do so. In fact, Barber later confessed to falsifying his testimony against Justin in a sworn affidavit.
Please visit www.justinwolfe.org for a concise synopsis of Justin's case and to read Barber's affidavit. Justin's options for appeals are running out, and he urgently needs the help of the news media. Please consider publishing and/or broadcasting his story as soon as possible.
Sincerely, [Your Name, or leave anonymous]
